What is required to obtain Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or British citizenship?
To qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), you generally need 5 years of continuous lawful residence in the UK (or 10 years for long residence), no more than 180 days absence in any 12-month period, a pass in the Life in the UK test, and CEFR B1 English proficiency. British citizenship naturalisation can follow after holding ILR for 12 months (or immediately upon ILR grant if married to a British citizen).
